Is There A Sciatic Nerve Pain Treatment That Works?
Sciatic nerve pain is often referred to by the shortened general term “sciatica”. This condition can afflict anyone but is apparently especially prevalent among people between 30 and 50 years of age. As its name indicates, this condition is characterized by frequent or even chronic pain associated with the sciatic nerve – the longest and largest nerve in the human body. Each sciatic nerve is actually a bundle of 5 spinal nerve roots that exit the spinal column at vertebral positions L4 through S3. These nerve roots then travel together through the lumbar region, and extend down through the pelvis and then through each buttock and on through the thighs. At around this point the sciatic nerve bundle begins to split into its smaller branches that extend into the calves, ankles, feet and even the toes.
The type of symptoms associated with sciatic nerve pain can differ widely from one sufferer to another. They can have a rapid onset related to an injury or it can develop over time with no clear cause whatsoever. They can be constant or intermittent, related to environmental conditions such as temperature or completely random. Sciatic nerve pain symptoms can include sharp shooting pain, tingling, numbness, weakness, and even partial immobility in the sufferer’s lower back, leg or foot. It normally affects only a single leg – either the left or right but may, in rare cases, affect both legs.

As demonstrated above, this notion of a pinched sciatic nerve is usually not precisely understood by the one diagnosing it nor by the one receiving the diagnosis.
